My Mac Makeup Course Experience

Hey everyone! :)

So for a last birthday present from my family I got a three hour Mac makeup course on the 3rd of November (they got it discounted on one of those deal websites). So I decided to explain my experience.

Long story short..it wasn't really what I was expecting. I tried to keep my expectations low so I don't get disappointed but for the full price that the other people had to pay, I don't think it was that great.

They basically started off by recommending you to use cleansers, toners and a face cream before you apply makeup. Some cleansers can dry out your skin if you use them to much so make sure you know what your cleanser does for you skin! Don't use it everyday if it's going to make your skin too dry/oily/etc. Toners aren't really needed that much for young skin but there is no harm using it so I agree there, just again make sure you have the right toner for your skin. And I ALWAYS put face cream on my face before I apply makeup, if you don't trust me your skin will thank you later.

The makeup artist teaching us was so sweet, and I loved the makeup she had on there! She asked me to be a little model for her to show the group what we would be doing. So she cleansed, toned and applied cream to my face using Simple products which are amazing, such a good price for good quality products.

She applied concealer(NC30) first then foundation(NC35). Most people prefer it the other way, foundation then concealer, I definitely do; I just find that I apply less concealer because my foundation covers most of what I wanted to conceal. The makeup artist said she prefers it her way because it gives the concealer more time to settle in the skin. Try it out, you might prefer it!

Next she did a smoky eye on me, starting off with Macs PaintPot to prime my eyelids and the colour was beautiful! (I can't remember what it was called, sorry!) She then applied a pale pink all over my lids, a brown in the outer corner, through the crease and on the lower lash line, a navy blue/black colour over the brown, intensifying it a lot, and a little on the outer parts of my lower lash line. After she intensified it to her desired look she got a gorgeous purple and put that in the blank parts of the eyes where the dark wasn't. On top of the pink looked stunning! She used the pink again to highlight my brow bone then she applied blush on my cheeks and blended up to my temples and applied a peachy-nude lipstick on which I liked a lot.

The only thing I hated was when she applied fake lashes on me. First off they were too small for my huge eyes and she knew that, but she still decided to put them on me anyway! Not to mention this was the first time I had ever worn fake lashes. Basically that was the first and LAST time I will ever wear fake lashes. BLUUUURRRGE! My eyes feel weird thinking about it!

Rounding things up a bit faster now, after that we had two hours left, we basically had to pair up and do makeup of each other, this is when things got bad. First off, the makeup artist removed my makeup so I could get redone by my partner. She used this gel makeup remover which felt fine when it came off. So my partner did my makeup, but sadly she struggled a bit because she wasn't used to doing makeup on my skin tone so she made it too dark and I basically looked like a racoon. Yeah... So I refused to go home on the train looking like that! So yes, I used the makeup remover again.

At first I didn't realise that my skin was red until I actually started to remove my makeup, I thought it was just me rubbing my face too hard but that's when my skin started burning. (Note that we only did each others eye makeup and I am not allergic to anything either. However in the winter/cold air my skin becomes sensitive and has swelled up slightly at times, even if I scratched myself lightly.)

My skin was fine with the cold air (even last year and the year before!) until I used that makeup remover, it was a brand I had never heard of, but you'd think it'd be fine if Mac accepts to use it. My skin has finally calmed down, thanks to Aloe Vera gel.

Okay so for the final hour I did the makeup on my partner and she really liked it! I was pretty proud of myself. :)

At the end we're all meant to get given a goody-bag. This was one thing I was really looking forward to, I thought that they would at least give us a few if not any of the products used in the course, but no. We get a mac eyeliner, which I love don't get me wrong, but then we got an awful pale pearly pink lipstick which 1) wasn't even a mac lipstick and 2) made me look like a complete utter idiot. [I will try and upload a picture of the lipstick and a swatch of it later]

Now of course I appreciate getting a goody-bag and having a lovely experience, but what I would say they would have to improve with a few things:

1) Teach special skills. The thing is these days is that people can learn basic skills online on blogs and YouTube, and you can even learn advanced skills too! What I thought the makeup artist should've done was told us some of her sneaky tips and tricks that she uses for fashion shows or TV or whatever! It would've been more interesting and unique.
2) Get a Simple makeup remover or some kind of remover that is suitable for all skin types.
3) Improve the goody-bag. For the full price that I think everyone paid there except me, I don't think it was worth it. Or at least make all the products be Mac.

Okay enough of me complaining. It was a great experience and a lovely birthday present, I loved the smokey eye we were taught and I appreciate everything that happened.

I do recommend to you guys though, if you do ever go to any makeup courses, make sure you take your own creams/makeup removers/cleansers/makeup/etc. if you are a bit worried about the products they use. It's always better to be safe than sorry.

My apologies for such a long blog. I promise the next one won't be as long.

Later beauties!
